"In the Radiant City" is a superbly directed and well acted tale about how one crime can destroy an entire family. The movie opens and we are introduced to Andrew Yurley, a misplaced Kentucky man, now earning a living on fishing boats up north. In the back of his mind, we find out his younger brother (who was convicted of a horrible crime) is up for his parole hearing in a couple of days. Andrew leaves to return to the small town in Kentucky where he was raised. When he arrives, everything and everyone begin to crumble. I had never heard of this movie. I simply took a chance on "On- Demand" and rented it last night. I am glad I did. This is a very heavily character-driven drama. At times, it can seem even a little boring because the director refuses to reveal certain details which would certainly help the viewer. However, I'm glad the director chose NOT to do this. The driving force to it all is Andrew Yurley (expertly underplayed by Michael Abbott, Jr. I found all characters very believable, and each person knew when to let up on the drama. This was very nice. I don't believe the movie is rated but it does contain adult situations and language.

can only add my support to one previous reviewer's succinct, very favorable comments, dated about 7/20/2017 would only add that, despite this small family's current late 20th c, early 21st c abominable economic situation (mostly the result of forces well beyond their control, needless to say), their personal relationships are identical to families up and down the economic scale, ergo a very universal, appealing story, well-acted, paced, filmed, etc etc

Superb acting. Excellent story that leaves alot up to the viewer, which some don't like but I do. Makes your imagination do some of the work.
