The Eve (2015) Reviews

  • Solid thriller with suspense and tension

Not your typical thriller/horror film because these friends, and this story, are written to showcase the relationships between them as people. It's cool to see such fleshed out characters who have history with each other in this genre. It's a much more involving story than a simple horror movie. The editing, score, camera work, lighting and location all carry through nicely, working to amp up the tension and suspense and help add dimension. It's not a slash and gore fest. It's a well told story of 4 friends spending a New Year's together in a remote area and it step-by-step going wrong. A well done indie that is part psychological thriller, part ensemble drama, part character study and part scary movie. Well worth the watch.

  • Exciting Thriller!

This movie is worth watching because the script keeps you engaged and the acting is very strong. The music and the setting make it spooky and suspenseful without being overly dramatic like many poorly made horror/thriller films. I've been to Martha's Vineyard and they really captured the island's sinister sense of loneliness. Throw in a killer with no where to run and you get a very exciting thriller. You really get the sense that you are on the eve of something bad. The director does a great job of building the suspense without making it feel corny or fake. A lot of thought went into each shot. The music enhances the watching experience. Well done!

  • Riveting with real Rivets

I was always going to watch this movie because I spent a hell of a lot of time on Martha's Vineyard, the main location, and if you're not hobnobbing with the Edgartown Yacht club Set or hanging out with the POTUS at this private estate south of the airport, then lets face it, its a pretty damn creepy place and in real life I've experienced a lot of creepiness up there. We used to have a house next to a 200 year old cemetery and the housekeeper next door could be seen wandering the graves at night talking to people...especially around the graves of little kids...so was glad to see The Eve deliver not just a blood fest but a creepy and crafted thriller with a lot of suspense that is adult and NOT just teens so it tackles some real emotion and works its way into your head and delivers! Bravo!

  • Awesome horror flick. Not a slash and hack blood fest. Thriller.

This movie is popcorn flick gold. Curl up on the couch, at night, lights off, and prepared to be scared. Have a flashlight on standby. The actor, Al Thompson, is epic. He's great to watch. The minute he's on screen, you're like bam... I didn't know I could watch more intensely. The Eve is set on Martha's Vineyard and the filmmakers use the space nicely. Really making the environment part of the movie. I don't want to ruin it, but it's definitely a scary movie. And the... well... no spoiler... it's creepy. Very creepy. Watch it. For the people who are knocking it. This isn't a hack and slash blood and torture movie. If you're into that. You won't find it here. You want some screams and frights. Watch The Eve.

  • Interesting take on the genre

As I write this it's Halloween. To keep the vibe of the spooky season going I've been watching a lot of horror flicks, many of them slashers. I was pleasantly surprised to see this film, given that they took a different approach to their setting in general. One can always say that suspense/horror films take a similar formula, but I greatly appreciated the filmmakers shaking things up with their locations and time of year. It's a well pieced together film that takes a look at the personal relationships we all deal with on an every day basis. The trailer and poster pulled me in right away and I wasn't disappointed. I'm personally a big fan of independent filmmaking so I had a special interest in this movie. Give it a watch for yourself and enjoy the ride.
