Den blomstertid nu kommer (2018) Reviews
It's a Swedish movie, it's a kick-starter movie, it's a brilliant movie.
I cannot believe this movie has not been reviewed yet??? I'd been waiting to see this ever since the trailer came out some months ago. Tonight....I was not disappointed. Even before the threat rears it's ugly head this is a beautiful film. The tension increased at a slow but perfect pace. Acting, action sequences (no OTT Hollywood bull), the music...all top notch. I understood around 70% of the Swedish (thank god it was texted too) but the way it was filmed...I missed nothing, it was easy to follow. I'd go as far as to say this is the movie that has gripped me the most this year so far, and considering my fondness for Marvel films, that's saying something. Thank for @crazypictures #crazypictures for one hell of an experience. BRAVO.
Best Swedish movie ever!!!
I didn't know what to expect from this movie, when I first saw the trailer I thought that Sweden was attacked by aliens or some sort of monsters and then my friend said that they were hit by natural disasters but he was also wrong! I don't want to say what or who attacked the country but I can promise you that this is the best Swedish movie ever and a real masterpiece! The action and the effects were top notch and the movie was very interesting I sat on the edge of my seat trough the entire movie, the acting was also pretty good especially considering that some of these actors haven't acted before in a "real" movie! Go see this movie and if you already have see it again!
There's hope for Swedish action.
In some areas "Den blomstertid nu kommer" is doing some things very professionally and almost at par with American high budget action - especially considering the low budget of this movie. The sound, the visuals and the effects are pretty darn great. And i really love how they bring out everything that's beautiful about Sweden. It's obvious that the creators had that in mind. Unfortunately the script and the characters suffers immensely. Both the father and the son are excruciatingly unlikeable. The father suppose to be loving and caring beneath the violent, uncaring and psychotic facade, but all in all, he just comes out as violent, uncaring and psychotic. He never trancendes to anything else. You can never come back from some specific kind of behavior and a violent irrational father figure is one of those. You destroyed that character early, yet you followed him and tried to make him into a hero in the end. The son - the main character - is a almost just as disturbing. Someone who's stuck in some unhealthy teenage angst, which makes him pretty weird, disturbing and irrational against the love of his life. If this suppose to be some sort of love story that makes the viewers care and become emotionally involved, i'm sorry. You failed. He's a weirdo and every girl should run from someone like that. And obviously i'm not the only one who noticed this. The war. The confusing non explanatory substory? I don't know. I'm just a question mark with that one. I was pretty much just left a fleshy perplexed humanoid question mark after this movie, all in all. I really like Crazy Pictures and i believe there's a bright future for these guys and they are needed in the Swedish film industry. But this wasn't great.
Wait... what?
This must be the movie with the most "Wait... what?" moments that I have ever seen. Having followed the crowd funding campaign, viewed every behind the scenes clips and probably watched the trailer about 20 times (shivering with excitement and anticipation every time), I had really high hopes for this flick. When rave reviews later were starting to pour in, of course I had to go see it when it finally premiered! In Sweden, we're not particularly spoiled with high quality movie productions. And in many ways this is a technical masterpiece, no doubt. There were numerous very realistic crashes, explosions and the overall CGI was great. The photography was stunning, from time to time, as was the soundtrack/sound design). However... It. Doesn't. Make. Any. Sense. Whatsoever! The movie tries so hard to mix action with a bad attempt of a love story and at the same time tries to tell a story about a troubled kid growing up. What were they on when they wrote the script? What I don't like: 1) The characters are unlikable and completely unbelievable. 2) The dialogue is laughable and makes you shudder in discomfort. (I'm sorry, fellow movie goers, that I laughed out loud where I'm pretty sure I wasn't supposed to...) 3) The strategies of the military, both the defense and the attackers are highly questionable, at best. 4) The editing... Just wow... won't even go there... I don't really know where to start to try to explain the plot, but it boils down to something going down in Sweden. A goofball dad, who is the caretaker of an underground electrical hub, seems to be the only one knowing that something bad is happening. He skillfully predicts the enemies' moves and start building some steampunk weapons to defend the bunker. Meanwhile, the military stands completely oblivious, and are somehow quickly decimated into 5 remaining people in a bunker (they soon start shooting at each other(!) though, leaving only three...). The main character, who happens to be the son of the goofball caretaker, tries hard to fix stuff but ends up being nothing more than a complete idiot the whole movie through, and would gain from someone giving him a couple of "Get ahold of yourself!"-cuffs to make him come to his senses. In the end, when it suddenly stops, we see the face of... Putin(!) Come on guys, really!!? I love that the Crazy Pictures collective came through with this crowd funded flick and have become a name in the international movie world. They totally deserve it, and therefore I honor them with 2 points for being technical genies. With this movie though, they try so hard (it's almost as if they had 25 writers) with being everything, that it ends up being just a Crazy Picture. Can't wait for the american version!
Incoherent mess..
First off: There are some good things with this move -ESPECIALLY since it´s low budget. Great photo, great soundtrack, and as a swede i really enjoyed the bold intention of making this kind of movie. Swedish movies are way too "vanilla" and 10 times out of 10 lack of originality. I had my hopes so high! But it really sucked (sry). I got what Crazy Pictures wanted to do but the execution failed miserably. The best way i can describe it is that it was embarrassing incoherent! Imagine that the movie contains 300 different scenes (or whatever) and you hire 300 directors, divides the scenes amongst them and then put it all together. The result is very weird and confusing. Even though i´m extremely disappointed, i really wish Crazy Pictures all the best -there´s a giant void in swedish film making that Crazy Picture could fill.
