Le berceau des ombres (2015) Reviews

  • Mediocre French horror with haunted bunker,long-haired ghost and flesh-eating mutants.

A group of scientists and paranormal hunters is stuck in a huge WWII bunker where in 1944 German scientists performed some hideous medical experiments on innocent people.Of course the bunker is haunted. There is a long-haired J-Horror inspired ghost of a young girl who is walking through the corridors plus cannibalistic mutants in the vein of frenetic "Rec" series."Le Berceau des Ombres" is a mediocre horror movie which lacks suspense and gore. There is a lot of walking and not much creep factor. The location is impressive though.Sprawling bunker with plenty of gloomy hallways and corridors.Still I expected more suspense and at least a little bit of graphic gore and violence.5 bunkers out of 10.

  • Watchable budget French horror

Cradle of Shadows is the kind of horror film you produce if you have a limited budget. A simple location, an industrial complex described as a Nazi bunker, a basic premise and pretty conventional monster effects. The result is a film that you could easily right off. That said, Cradle of Shadows, is not terrible. The acting is reasonable and the concept, whilst not original, is brought to life in a moderately convincing fashion. Perhaps, the one area, where I felt this flick could have been improved, in spite of its constraints, is in the monster department. The creeping creatures, are simply not that scary. A little more menace and perhaps, a wee bit more cash, on the creature effects, would certainly have paid off in the scare department. All in all, in my view a competent, if not terribly exciting, horror film with future potential. Lets hope if this group make a second film, they address some of the first ones shortcomings. Five out of ten from me.
