  • I'm a brave fighter, and you're a cheap film star!

Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan have made many films together, but none has shown them as collaborative as Yeh Dillagi and Main Khiladi Tu Anari. In this action comedy flick, they play two extremely different characters. Akshay is a tough policeman and Saif is a popular film star, who, fed up with the spineless romantic heroes he plays on-screen, decides to follow Akshay and learn his mannerisms as a preparation for a future role as policeman. Familiar, no? Well it's not an original film, but it's a decent Bollywoodised version which has its own style. The film is light, funny and does not take itself too seriously, and that's why it works. Akshay, in his own special well-known angry young man style, is nice and well cast. Saif is hilarious and basically plays himself. Wasn't he also so fed up with all the crap he was doing that he decided to try more experimental artistic films? Shilpa in a double role of (hold on!!) a bar dancer and a street dancer is awfully attractive, very sexy and vivacious, and her comic timing is top-notch. Just see the "Churake Dil Mera" song. This girl is just to die for. I never really understood why big production houses never bothered to sign her for their films. She was so perky, peppy, beautiful and evidently talented. Well, watch this decent Bollywood film from the 1990s. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.

I love this Movie. Akshay Kumar as Inspector Karan Joglekar and Saif Ali Khan as actor Deepak Kumar form the Dream Team. Shilpa Shetty's double role as Mona/Basanti. Kader Khan's double role is so hilarious. Shakti Kapoor as Goli, the Underworld Don kills Arjun Joglekar, Karan's brother. Shivangi as portrayed by Raageshwari, has the hots for Deepak Kumar. I love Deepak Kumar's disguises. Johnny Lever as Dhansukh, Deepak's servant is a real trip. I highly recommend this film. Goli's thugs decide to rob an amusement park as they call it "Disney World". Raageshwari is so cute and adorable. My brother loves this film too, as well as my aunt and cousin sister. This film is a doozy.

  • One of Akshay's best films from the 90s

    superindrajit2011-05-30

Akshay Kumar is a fantastic action hero and even when he blended into comedy, he was quite good. However, his action movies were much better because it was him who introduced raw martial arts style action to Bollywood. After the success of Khiladi(1992) and a bad 1993 with the exception of Waqt Hamra Hai(1993, Akshay returned with some of his best films from 1994. Main Khiladi Tu Anari released in September, when Akshay already had film like Elaan, Suhaag, Mohra, Yeh Dillagi to his credit. Main Khiladi Tu Anari tells the story of Inspector Karan Joglekar who is a hard boiled cop, his brother is an honest cop who looses his life trying to capture the criminal and evil mastermind Goli. Karan is frustrated because not only does he brother die but the witness Mona also dies. Karan's frustration increases when he has to put up with the film star Deepak Kumar who is the complete opposite of him. Deepak always tries to impress Karan but ends up disappointing him. This disappointment seems to irritate Karan. Karan finds a lookalike of Mona called Basanti and he decides to plant her in Goli's gang. Goli knows that Mona died because they had to kill her as she was a police informer. What Goli doesn't know is Mona is a fake and she has lied when she said she lost her memory. Karan is impressed with Deepak as time passes but he still wants to get rid of him. After Deepak get's angry with him and leaves, Karan stops him and both slowly become good friends. Karan slowly starts to fall in love with Basanti and Goli finds out that Mona is not Mona but Basanti. Watch the action packed climax of the movie to see how Karan and Deepak work together and fight the evil forces of Goli. The film is great for a 90s movie and it is one of the few logical and decent movies Akshay Kumar acted in. However, Mohra had a better story and a better villain. Sachin Bhowmick's script does full justice to Sameer Malkan's direction because the script is tight. The film never really drags and the flow is good. The film's highlights are the action scenes and the several hilarious comedy sequences. What works and combines well with the film is the well timed songs of the film, which was the one thing Mohra lacked. Most of the songs were big hits and are classics. Direction by Sameer Malkan is good, after the good but flop Divya Shakti, Sameer Malkan returns with a better Main Khiladi Tu Anari. Sadly, this was the last time he directed a good films because Keemat was an awful comedy film. He handles several scenes well and the tempo if the film is well maintained. In short, this is probably Malkan's best film. Being an Akshay Kumar fan, I really enjoyed this film. He was not only good in acting with well timed expressions but he was excellent with action and comedy. Saif Ali Khan steals the show with his excellent comic timing. He makes you laugh at the right places and despite some corny dialogs, the film is strengthened because of his comedy. Shilpa Shetty does full justice to the film with her acting. Shakti Kapoor is good as the villain. Rageshwari is fairly good though she doesn't have much to do. Johny Lever lends some funny moments and Ravenna is OK in a cameo. Music is probably one of the best things about the movie, the tittle song comes late but is my favourite and a good song, the dance steps are good. Churke Dil Mera is a nice and slow romantic song but the dancing is a bit crude. The Zaara song is well supported by a guitar tune while the other songs fill the bill. On the whole, Main Khiladi Tu Anari is a brilliant action comedy with many highlights. It is probably one of the best Akshay Kumar movies after Mohra and 1994 was Akshay's best year with 5 big hits.

  • Super Hit Film - Good action and comedy film.

First I remember I watched the short song clip on TV -'Main Khiladi Tu Anari' and I listened the song on the radio 'Paas woh aane lage', both good song and music as well. I was thinking that the film must be good film then I watched it all after released and it was brilliant. Few months later, I watched the song trailer on another video and there was one song that it never show in the film - 'Zubaan Khamosh Hoti Hai', I thought where that song and we didn't hear it. You can search it on youtube, it's there. The reason why it was hit because Kadar Khan wrote the story (dialogue), I believe. See the opening credit on DVD or streaming video online. Kadar always made a good film, no matter if the film was low or big budget like 'Ghar Ho To Aisa', 'Pyar Ka Mandir',etc.

This movie was inspired from the 1991 movie, "The Hard Way" but in my opinion, I feel like Main Khiladi Tu Anari was the better version, simply because it had a better cast and better script. The plot goes as follows: Inspector Karan Joglekar (Akshay Kumar) is set on a mission to avenge his brother's killer and after meeting with Mona (Shilpa Shetty), she gets killed by her ex-lover Goli (Shakti Kapoor) and Karan is left on a hunt to infiltrate Goli. His family consist of his sister-in-law (Beena) and Shivangi (Raageshwari). The DSP (Kader Khan) puts Karan on a task to let Deepak Kumar (Saif Ali Khan) follow him while Karan is on a mission which leads to many comic confrontations. Among Karan's team is Deepak, Basanti (Shilpa Shetty in a double role) to play Mona, Ramlal (Kader Khan in a double role), and Deepak's assistant Dansukh (Johnny Lever). The movie gets more comical when Deepak falls in love with Shivangi and Karan falls in love with Basanti. The movie is not just predictable but not original as it was a remake. However, what makes MKTA more successful is its cast, the music and most importantly, the comedy. After a serious yet successful Divya Shakti, Sameer Malkan made MKTA successful especially making the "Khiladi" series more meaningful with the action genre with Akshay Kumar. The dialogues by KK himself are hilarious as he is definitely a comedian. Now onto the performances. Akshay Kumar dominates the movie with his action sequences and his "angry young man" gimmick that is trademarked by Big B was used in the film, however his comic sequences was his downfall and his cop act gets boring as usual. Kader Khan and Shilpa Shetty in double roles are absolutely hilarious. Shetty can really put on a comic performance as Basanti but her Mona was a bit too boring. Rageshwari was still raw as she was the typical naive sister. The film should have had someone like Sonali or Karishma instead of Rageshwari. Johnny Lever was funny but Kader Khan was more funnier than him. Shakti Kapoor was menacing. Saif Ali Khan steals the show with his comical sequences and makes the movie a comedy. From an actor in training to a sidekick, he can pull it off well. His disguises, changing voices, and his chemistry with Akshay are simply just brilliant. Ever wondered how SAK did excellent comedy in Dil Chahta Hai, Kal Ho Na Ho, and Hum Tum? Well MKTA was his beginning of his comedy acting skills and how he got his first break after Aashiq Awara. The music was great as well as the entire movie. Watch it if you are a fan of action movies, but also watch it if you are feeling to laugh! Main Khiladi Tu Anari does not disappoint
